The Hamilton Capital Global Financials Yield ETF (HFY) is scheduled to launch on February 7th, 2017. The objective of the fund is to offer attractive returns from regular/quarterly distribution income and capital appreciation by investing in global financials. Put differently, the aspiration of the fund is for the ETF to generate “REIT-like yields, with positive rate sensitivity”.
HFY is a global ETF which means its investable universe provides a dramatically greater number of investment opportunities compared to a Canada-only fund (where the selections of companies is dominated by 9 large-caps). To illustrate, as the chart below highlights, the universe of higher yielding financials is vast, and includes nearly 400 financials that pay a yield of greater than 5%, spread over the various sub-sectors of the financials and geographies.
The universe of global financials that pay a yield of greater than 6% is also very large. In fact, as the chart below highlights, there are ~250 global financials that pay a yield over 6% spread across the global financial services universe.
