TORONTO, Dec. 30, 2016 /CNW/ – Hamilton Capital Partners Inc. (“Hamilton Capital”) confirmed today the annual distribution of capital gains to unitholders of the Hamilton Capital Global Bank ETF (ticker “HBG”), which trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange, for the 2016 tax year. Please note that this is an update to the estimated annual capital gains distributions previously announced on December 19, 2016.
ETFs are required to distribute any net income and capital gains earned in the year. The annual capital gains distribution will not be paid in cash but will be reinvested and reported as taxable distributions, and will be used to increase each unitholder’s adjusted cost base for HBG. The capital gains distribution will be reinvested automatically in additional units of HBG and immediately consolidated so that the number of units held by the unitholder, the units outstanding of HBG, and the net asset value of HBG will not change as a result of the capital gains distribution. This amount is for the annual capital gains distributions and does not include the regular quarterly cash distribution announced on December 19, 2016. The ex-dividend date for this distribution was December 28, 2016, for all unitholders of record on December 30, 2016. In early 2017, the tax characteristics of all 2016 distributions will be reported to brokers via the Canadian Depository for Securities.
